At Mayfield Our Personal and Social Development Approach underpins all aspects of provision and the school curriculum.

It fully supports our Mission to provide:

A safe, happy and regulated learning community, where together we empower pupils to develop key skills for life.

We aim to support our pupils to reach their potential in relation to all aspects of their personal and social development.

Our Intent

We seek for our pupils to be able to :

  • Connect with people
  • Make friendships
  • Take care of their body
  • Keep learning
  • Have goals and aspirations
  • Find ways to bounce back
  • To be positive
  • To be happy with who they are
  • Take responsibility
  • Manage feelings and regulate emotions

Implementation

Each Student has an individual PSD target linked to their EHCP outcomes. In addition every aspect of the school experience in underpinned by supporting our pupils to develop their  personal , social , emotional , mental health , independence and resilience.

We deliver a comprehensive and bespoke PSHE curriculum based on the PHSE Association SEND specific Curriculum which from 2020 incorporates :

Health Education , Relationships and Sex Education at a cognitively and emotionally appropriate level. This is underpinned by developing skills within the preparation for adulthood framework.

In addition where necessary we offer specific support or interventions for students via our in house referral system. This may take the form of targeted or specialist support to enhance our universal offer.

Impact

Over their time at Mayfield pupils show progress in each area developing life skills , independence, social awareness and interaction, self- esteem and resilience. This can be evidenced by progress against IEP’s , Cherry Levels, Thrive Assessments , Parental Feedback , Case studies and discussion with staff teams.
