Dear Parents and Carers,
Firstly, a big thank you to all of you for your words of support over the last few weeks. School does not feel the same without all our children and young people being in, but we appreciate you taking sensible measures to keep us all safe.
We are aware that as time passes more issues will arise for you and your families. With that in mind, our family support team will be operating over the holidays and for as long as you need us.
Angela, Jackie and myself will be available to offer telephone support and practical advice – at this time there is no such thing as a silly question so if at all in doubt ask away! We are also happy just to listen if that is what you want.
There is also plenty of information on the website under a new tab, ‘Supporting Mental Health and Wellbeing.’
We are including contact numbers for you to use.
• Angie: 07840937258
• Rachel: 07936565639
• Jackie: 07840937258
I am sure you all want to know what the plan is for after the holidays. At present, we are still following the government advice around social distancing and remaining within family units, until we are advised otherwise.
Obviously, we all want things to get back to normal as soon as possible, but I am sure you all appreciate that as a school, maintaining social distancing will be difficult with many of our pupils. We also have to maintain safe staff to pupil ratios, and this is difficult to predict as people go in and out of isolation.
To be realistic, it will be some time before we are in a position for all pupils to return. Obviously, this presents a bigger issue for some of you and as such this is a conversation you can be having with your social worker who should be on hand for support.
Our school contact Social Workers are: Sarah Brookfield and Sharon Fergus.
If you contact the Children with Disabilities team on 01772 538095 the duty worker can get a message to them.
It just remains for me to say that we will get through this together – there is no right way to respond to this situation, so give yourself the credit you deserve for trying! One saying we have, that I feel is most relevant at the moment:
‘Mayfield is like a good cup of tea – the hotter the water we are in, the stronger and better we are!’
Stay strong and safe everyone.
Rachel and Team
